Yahoo?

This is old news, but Yahoo! has acquired Konfabulator. Konfabulator is for Windows and OSX what SuperKaramba/Gdesklets are for Linux. The significance of Yahoo! acquiring them is not what I'm focusing on here. It is the fact that major companies are _very_ interested in interactive widgets on your desktop. Whether it be for booking flights, viewing your weather, or giving you a desktop search that just queries via html thier search engine, you can see that it has a major role to play in the evolution of the desktop as we know it.

I think that KDE will be ahead of the game come next year when Plasma is unveiled and those widgets can do things like be torn off and docked on a panel with widget distribution being handled by KNewStuff. Btw, if Google wants to compete with Yahoo!, my email isn't hard to find. ;)
